Reflection for March 31, 2010

The Bread of Life

Serving one another bread is glimpsing life’s heart – let us not forget that.

When the bread is broken the hands of the one holding the loaf part

and her arms are open to share food and life.

Bread gives in each step of its creation:

to the one who makes and touches and waits;

to the one who breaks and serves;

to the one who receives and eats.

Then this precious vehicle of life is eaten and becomes, somehow us.

So the cycle continues.

The God that was there in immortal wheat is there in sharing bread.

Isn’t this what the Eucharist symbolizes:

that all meals are sacred;

all food is holy;

that companionship is sharing the promise of life and strength.

REVELATION
(After Juliana of Norwich)

then showed me he
in right hand held
everything that is

the hand was a woman's
creation all lusty
a meek bird's egg

nesting there waiting
her word and I heard it

newborn I make you
neostling I love you
homing I keep you

Reflection for March 17, 2010

This little piece of SOD from Ireland looks quite barren, as of course it is. But if a seed was planted within it and watered, the sod would become the protector of the seed until it grew into the blossom it was meant to be.

Perhaps some of us have been feeling barren and empty during these days of Lent. But deep inside our soul is the seed of FAITH, that nurtured by Christ’s Love, will grow and become a beautiful blossom when our Lenten Journey ends and we again celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord, Jesus.

REFLECTING ON THE HOLY

I bend

toward

doubt

more often

than not-

dropping

God’s hands

so quickly

to wring my own.

But today

three perfect

tulips

blushing

on my desk

make it

impossible

to clutch

any disbelief.
